The PEI Humane Society is the Island’s only Shelter for homeless, injured, lost, and abused companion animals. We are a not-for- profit organization that assists over 1800 companion animals each year with no operational funding from any level of government.
We provide a number of companion animal protection services:
•an adoption program to place companion animals into new homes
•lost and found services to reunite lost pets with their owners
•24 hour response for animals in distress
•investigation and complaints (771 in 2009/.2010)
•enforcing legislation and by-laws for animal control
Our adoption program
Over 1,000 companion animals were adopted into loving homes in 2010. When deciding to place a companion animal into our adoption program we look at a number of factors: behaviour, temperament, age, and health. Our Adoption Counsellor is on hand to help adoptive families find their best match and make sure that the animal’s new home is the right one.
Emergency help for injured animals
The PEI Humane Society operates a 24 hour emergency service for injured animals. Call 902 892-1191 and leave a message. Please be sure to give us this information:
Your name, address, telephone number.

As many details about the animal as you can.
Our on-call Animal Protection Officer will respond as quickly as possible.
Depending on the situation and severity of any injuries, our Animal Protection Officer will take the animal to the Atlantic Veterinary College or the PEI Humane Society shelter.
